Scope and content |
Bulk of the collection consists of deeds, wills, and newspapers. The deeds were contracted primarily by members of the Stallings family of Perquimans County, N.C. The wills of Elias Stallings and Jacob Jordan provide a listing of bequests, including a number of slaves. Of particular interest are two Virginia newspapers, the Virginia Pilot and the Ledger-Dispatch, both of which carry headlines devoted to the death of King Edward VII of Great Britain and the succession of George V. Additional materials include a land assessment of lots in Hertford; Bible record of births and deaths, presumably of Stallings's slaves; clipping that describes the recapturing of Plymouth, N.C., by Confederate forces; clipping regarding Edenton, N.C.; and a partial genealogical chart of the Stallings family of Perquimans County. |
